Silver Rocket @ Buffalo Bar… on a Wednesday!

May 8th, 2008 · No Comments

We’ve just been added to this Wednesday’s Silver Rocket show at the Buffalo Bar.

In better words than I could come up with, here’s what Silver Rocket have to say about it…

Silver Rocket presents:

KLING KLANG (or K**** K**** as they’re currently trading on myspace)

5 piece heavy experimental synthesiser krautrock orchestra with amplified vintage synths, futuristic riffs, electric guitars and live drums.

http://www.myspace.com/superposition

BUTTONHEAD

Eclectic noise salad. And vehemently not folk.

“Buttonhead have refined their live act into what closely resembles a burst goat, or the conjunction of mustard and Velcro, and they frequently invite their audiences to spit biscuits and construct large pineapple hammers on stage.”

http://www.myspace.com/buttonhead

UNCLE PEDRO

Indie Rock that doesn’t take itself too seriously, for fans of Pixies, McLusky, Montana Pete and Shellac

http://www.myspace.com/unclepedrouk

plus of course Silver Rocket DJs play the usual sonic youth le tigre fugazi ride breeders mudhoney dinosaur jr lightning bolt battles jesus lizard dead kennedys pavement melvins arcade fire pixies shellac strokes peaches the smiths the cure buzzcocks slint interpol ramones my bloody valentine nirvana random pop part chimp bloc party sleater kinney the fall joy division joeyfat hot snakes lords rogers sisters pj harvey les savy fav superchunk white stripes talking heads von bondies the rapture bikini kill yeah yeah yeahs led zeppelin q and not u ac/dc dfa1979 guns’n’roses and, oh you know, that kind of thing, until late. Or late-ish, anyway, it IS a school night…we’ll be carrying on until Andy falls asleep anyway.

A Silver Rocket wipes out Notting Hill…

March 18th, 2008 · No Comments

Just a quick hello regarding our gig last Saturday: it was Trident missile-sized fun. Great standard of bands, good sounding venue, and we got some radio play as a result! We are officially ‘wired-up personality-laced post-hardcore‘.

I took some photos of the other bands, but none of us on stage (I was, er, busy…).

Big thanks to Rachel+Andy at Silver Rocket, and Neil for the sound. I wish I lived in London and could come to this regularly.

Afterthoughts: Silver Rocket

October 23rd, 2007 · No Comments

UNcle Pedro at Silver RocketWe’ve all been buzzing after our show at Silver Rocket on Friday night. Its a night we really enjoy anyway, and the standard of bands is very good. Highly recommended.

Big thanks to the rocketfolks for putting us on, and our dedicated crew for showing up. We distributed a load of CD’s (giveaways… thanks to Radiohead for devaluing EVERYTHING last week!*) and received some great feedback. Its really cool to play at a night where the audience are there because of the reputation of the promoters alone. I really enjoyed YouMeTheSwitch (I’m a sucker for instrumental bands despite my shouty nature).

There was a little bit of nakedness, and a lot of masculinity on display during our show. Dan and both wore our lumberjack shirts, of course Vince removed his (although it took him longer than usual….). There might be a trickle of video to follow.

So there’s no current gig plans, but I’m trying to arrange a Brighton gig at the moment as we’ve heard the Freebutt is open again. Yes to sea air, no to having no product to give away any more!!

Adios (Lisa and Michael in particular!).

* We all think this is a good thing… if perhaps a bit of a stunt.

Our last - as yet untitled - number from the Goonite gig back in September. Keep your ears peeled for an unusual choice of heckle towards the end…

DIY Fest: a very friendly place to be

July 30th, 2007 · 1 Comment

You know what makes a band feel truly special? It’s not upping the hairdo budget for tax reasons.

No, its the cupcakes. Yep, at A Badge of Friendship’s DIY Festival this weekend, the lovely Francesca made cupcakes with all of the band names frosted on top. Yeah. R n R.

The atmosphere was appropriately casual, with bands and audience wandering in and out as they pleased. I particularly enjoyed Limn, especially their new tune (name unknown). Bands like Limn make we wish I had paid more attention in music theory, and less attention to Emma Roberts from 2S.

Limn

We played our hearts out: me losing my voice about 2/3rds in. Why is it I can rehearse for 3 hours without my voice giving out, but playing live for 20 mins kills it dead??

Thanks again to Claire+Paul, you’ve given us faith in promoters again.
